Parent Training & Education

Giving parents the confidence, knowledge and practical strategies to support their child’s development.

As a parent, you spend more time with your child than anyone else. While therapy sessions are important, the greatest opportunities for learning happen during everyday moments — at home, at childcare, in the community and during family routines.

We believe parents and caregivers are the most important members of a child’s support team. Our Parent Training & Education service provides practical guidance, coaching and support so you feel confident helping your child develop.

Why it matters

Why Parent Involvement Matters

Children learn best from the people they spend the most time with. Most learning occurs during everyday activities:

Playing together
Reading books
Mealtimes
Bath time
Getting dressed
Shopping
Childcare & preschool routines
Family outings

When parents understand how to support development in these moments, children receive hundreds of additional learning opportunities every week. Research consistently shows parent involvement is one of the strongest predictors of successful therapy outcomes.

You’re not alone

Common Challenges Parents Ask Us About

Families often seek parent coaching because they are wondering:

Communication

How can I help my child talk more?
My child is a late talker — what can I do at home?
How can I encourage communication during everyday activities?

Behaviour & emotions

Why does my child have so many meltdowns?
Why does my child become frustrated so easily?
How do I support my child’s emotional regulation?

Feeding

How can I make mealtimes less stressful?
Why won’t my child try new foods?

Connection

How can I support my autistic child?
How do I help my child make friends?

You don’t need to have all the answers before reaching out. We help you understand what may be contributing to your child’s challenges and provide practical strategies you can confidently use at home.

About

What is Parent Training & Education?

Parent Training & Education empowers families with the knowledge and skills needed to support development outside of therapy sessions. Rather than relying solely on weekly appointments, parent coaching helps children learn through the everyday experiences they encounter most often.

We help parents understand how children learn and develop; how communication, feeding and emotional regulation develop; how sensory processing can impact behaviour and participation; and how to encourage communication through play and everyday routines — adapted to their child’s individual needs.

The goal is not perfection. The goal is helping families feel confident, capable and supported.

Behaviour

Understanding Challenging Behaviour

One of the most common concerns parents raise is challenging behaviour. Children are not usually trying to be difficult — behaviour is often a form of communication. Children may struggle because of communication difficulties, sensory differences, emotional regulation challenges, developmental delays, fatigue, anxiety or frustration when needs cannot be expressed.

Rather than focusing solely on stopping behaviours, we help families identify triggers, recognise unmet needs, understand the communication behind behaviour, develop proactive strategies and respond confidently and consistently — creating a more positive environment for children and parents alike.

Support at home

Support Development at Home with Time 2 Play

Leana created Time 2 Play — a practical, evidence-based guide to support your child’s development through everyday play. For children aged 0–5, it includes activities linked to developmental milestones, communication and language ideas, feeding and oral motor activities, and sensory and emotional development — complementing the strategies covered in parent coaching.
