Early Intervention Speech Therapy

Helping babies, toddlers and young children reach their full potential.

Worried your child isn’t talking yet? Perhaps they’re a late talker, struggling to communicate, finding social interactions difficult, or not reaching milestones as expected.

The first five years are a critical time for learning, communication and development — early support can make a significant difference. At RTC Speech Pathology we provide personalised early intervention for children across the Central Coast.

What is Early Intervention?

Early intervention is support provided during the most important years of a child’s development — typically from birth to five years of age.

Rather than waiting to see if a child “grows out of it”, early intervention helps children build the foundations they need to thrive. Research consistently shows that identifying and addressing concerns early can improve outcomes across communication, speech clarity, social and play skills, feeding, emotional regulation, behaviour, school readiness, confidence and independence.

When to seek support

Signs Your Child May Benefit

Every child develops differently, but some signs may indicate that additional support would be beneficial.

Communication

Isn’t using meaningful words by ~18 months
Isn’t combining two words by ~2 years (e.g. “my ball”)
Has a limited vocabulary for their age
Is difficult to understand
Struggles to follow simple instructions
Becomes frustrated when trying to communicate

Feeding

Refuses many foods or is very selective
Has difficulty chewing or swallowing
Gags on certain textures
Experiences stressful mealtimes
Has oral motor difficulties affecting feeding

Social interaction

Prefers to play alone most of the time
Has difficulty engaging with others
Struggles with turn-taking or shared attention
Finds group activities difficult

Behaviour & regulation

Frequent emotional outbursts or meltdowns
Becomes frustrated when unable to communicate
Struggles with transitions or changes in routine
Finds it difficult to regulate emotions

If you’re unsure whether your child is on track, an assessment can provide reassurance, guidance and practical next steps.
