Treatment Goals

1. Restore proper nasal breathing—all day and night

2. Facilitate adequate lip seal at rest

3. Establish correct and optimal tongue posture and resting position

4. Optimize healthy and optimal chewing and swallowing patterns

5. Eliminate or minimize dysfunctional oral habits e.g. thumb sucking/dummy

6. Strengthening/re-patterning of orofacial muscles

7. Jaw stability

What to Expect

ASSESSMENT SESSION:

(45 minutes to 1 hour)

• Initial speech and oral motor assessment, Developmental Questionnaire to complete

• Discussion and explanations of areas of concern e.g. tongue tie, mouth breathing, speech sound difficulties, feeding difficulties, low oral muscle tone etc

• Collaborative teamwork with your team e.g. Functional Dentist, ENT, GP

THERAPY SESSIONS:

Developing individualised session plan — fortnightly visits (10-12 sessions, 30-45 mins)

• Specific exercises each session to be demonstrated, explained, modified, home exercises provided

• Explanation and demonstration of your Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy Exercises Kit (recommendation of purchases individualised)

These programs are offered in the Clinic or also

successfully via TeleHealth for added convenience.

6–12 year olds

Please check with your Health Fund as a rebate may be provided. Clients may also be eligible for a rebate through Medicare if they obtain a GP Care Plan. A child, with their parent’s permission, can be referred to RTC Speech without a referral (self-referred).
