1. About these courses
After the Release and Little Mouths, Strong Habits (the “Courses”) are educational programs for parents and carers. They are produced by RTC Speech Pathology (“we”, “us”, “our”), ABN 73 151 645 037. They give general information, and play-based and recovery activities, about oral motor function, feeding, and orofacial myofunctional habits in children.
The Courses are there to inform and support parents. They are not:
- a diagnostic tool
- a treatment plan tailored to any individual child
- a clinical service
2. Not medical or clinical advice
The information and activities in the Courses are general. They are not medical, dental or speech pathology advice for your individual child. They don’t replace assessment, diagnosis or treatment by a qualified health professional who has examined your child.
Using the Courses doesn’t create a clinician–patient or therapist–client relationship between you or your child and us. That applies equally to any speech pathologist, clinician or contributor associated with the Courses.
Always ask your child’s doctor, dentist, speech pathologist or other qualified provider about any questions on:
- your child’s health or development
- feeding
- a procedure such as a tongue-tie or lip-tie release
Never ignore professional advice, or delay seeking it, because of something in the Courses.
3. Scope of practice
The Courses reflect general principles within the scope of speech pathology, delivered as parent education only. They do not provide:
- individual assessment or diagnosis
- a personalised therapy or rehabilitation program
- post-surgical medical or wound-care instructions specific to your child
- advice that replaces the guidance of the surgeon, dentist or clinician who performed or recommended a procedure
If your child has had, or is being considered for, a tongue-tie or lip-tie release (a frenotomy or frenectomy), your treating practitioner’s instructions come before any general guidance in the Courses. If anything in the Courses seems to conflict with those instructions, follow your practitioner and contact them.
4. Your responsibility as a parent or carer
You know your child best. By using the Courses, you accept responsibility for two things: deciding whether an activity is appropriate and safe for your child, and supervising your child throughout it.
- Supervise directly. Never leave a child unattended during any activity, especially one involving the mouth, food or small objects.
- Go at your child’s pace. Stop if your child shows distress, resistance, pain or tiredness. Never force an activity.
- Check suitability. Make sure an activity suits your child’s age, abilities and any medical conditions. Check with your clinician if you’re unsure.
- Mind allergies and choking risks. Where an activity involves food or objects, you are responsible for choosing safe, age-appropriate items and managing any allergy or choking risk.
5. When to stop and seek help
Stop the activity and get prompt advice from a qualified health professional if anything about your child concerns you, including:
- ongoing pain or distress
- bleeding that doesn’t settle quickly
- signs of infection, such as fever, swelling or spreading redness
- difficulty feeding, swallowing or breathing
- refusing to feed
- any change that seems unusual for your child
In an emergency — for example, difficulty breathing, choking or heavy bleeding — stop immediately and call your local emergency number:
- 000 in Australia
- 911 in the US and Canada
- 999 in the UK
- 112 in Europe
Don’t rely on the Courses in an emergency.
6. No guarantee of results
Children develop differently, and outcomes depend on many things outside our control. We don’t promise or guarantee that the Courses will produce any particular result for your child. Examples and progress described in the Courses are illustrations only, not predictions of your child’s results.
7. International users
The Courses are offered to a worldwide, English-speaking audience. They are run from New South Wales, Australia. Health, professional and consumer laws differ between countries, and the Courses are not tailored to any one country. Where you live, please use the activities with the guidance of a qualified professional.
8. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent the law allows, we are not liable for any loss, injury or damage arising from your use of, or reliance on, the Courses or any activity in them.
This is subject to any consumer guarantees that can’t lawfully be excluded. Nothing in this statement excludes, restricts or changes any consumer right or guarantee that applies to you and can’t lawfully be excluded.
9. Changes to the Courses
We may update or revise course content from time to time to keep it current. If a course is withdrawn, our Terms and refunds page explains what happens to your access. The version of this statement published with the Courses when you use them is the version that applies.
